Puget Sound Energy: Rock The Bulb 2011

KOMO Production Services and KUNS-TV worked together with TD Wang Advertising Group in Seattle to create a commercial highlighting the Rock the Bulb program sponsored by Puget Sound Energy. The agency sent scripts and video examples of what they’d like their spot to look like.

After viewing their examples, it was determined that using After Effects was the only way to achieve the look and feel they wanted. Here is the completed spot.

Alderbrook Resort and Spa – Video Production Diary

Written by Nick Pavlovsky

We recently had the opportunity to shoot an amazingly beautiful location about 90 minutes from Seattle. Alderbrook Resort and Spa, overlooking the Hood Canal in Union, WA, has one of the best views I have yet to discover in my short time up here in the Northwest. With plenty of help from all the amazing staff at Alderbrook (especially Marty and Joel), we were able to pack in quite a lot of shooting into only a day and a half. Here’s a brief recap of the shoot:

Day 1

7:35am: We get on the Seattle to Bremerton Ferry—duration 1 hour (then 30 minutes of driving to the resort) Continue reading ‘Alderbrook Resort and Spa – Video Production Diary’

Broadway at the Paramount 2010-2011 Season Promos

Last week, we shot a donut spot with Kent Phillips at the beautiful and historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Seattle. We scouted the theatre a week before the shoot to determine the best locations for backgrounds. The finished spots will feature the 5 new shows including Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins, Hair, Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages in the 2010-2011 season.

Setting up the first shot in the upper lobby area.

Before Kent showed up, we set up lighting for our second location on the main floor of the auditorium to help move things along.

After Kent arrived, we did the usual mic checks and white balance.

Our extras didn’t show up so you’re looking at our last minute background people to make the shot a bit  livelier. Nick Pavlovsky and Ryan Marth from KPS also helped out as extras in the far background.

Setting up the shot on the lower floor of the main auditorium.

Our good shooters hard at work!

This was our final interior location way up in the upper balcony.

Danielle Condos Shoot in Ballard

We’ve had an amazingly mild winter in Seattle and today is no exception. A crisp sunny morning and not a cloud in the sky! A perfect day to shoot on the rootop of a condo construction project in Ballard. The Danielle Condos are in full contruction and DW Clark produced a spot to help promote sales of it’s units.

The beautiful thing about producing commercials is that we can make things look better than they appear in real life. The commercial opens with a scene of wine pouring into a glass, similating the view you’d get from one of the many balconies in this condo. But to viewers, they’d never know this building was in various states of construction. We even broke our wine glass before we left the Fisher Plaza parking garage. Luckily, the client had another glass with him.

Thanks to our new videographer Nick Pavlovsky, we achieved a stunning shot of the wine glass with the Olympic mountains in the background. Look at our low-tech set up in the photos below.

The commercial was enhanced with additional b-roll from Shilshole Bay Marina, computer generated shots of the condo project and still photos of downtown Ballard.

Oktoberfest Northwest

We are working once again with Festivals Inc. to produce a spot for Oktoberfest Northwest. This year, they have a new look and feel to their event so their spot was updated to reflect this change. This was done in Adobe After Effects with new photos they provided. KOMO 4 has worked with Festivals Inc. on many occassions on the events they promote.

Cascade Elementary School Featured in Promo

Morning News 13Reading, writing, and ROLL tape!  It took the KOMO 4 promo crew, cameraman Mark Nazarino, 20 excited kids and four excited anchors to help make this year’s back to school promos for KOMO 4 Morning News.  It was a fun filled shoot in the hot sun at Cascade Elementary School in Issaquah.  The kids were great sports and took direction well from creative services producer Sara Avery. What’s the secret according to Sara? We just bribed them with a van full of fruit punch, cracker jacks, and lollipops! Great shots were taken all from the one location. Video was shot on BetacamSX in widescreen format. Many thanks to the Cascade Elementary School and parents who helped make this shoot such a success! The promo features KOMO 4 Morning News anchors Mike Dardis, Molly Shen, Paul Deanno and Rachel Murcia. KOMO 4 Morning News is seen weekdays from 5am-7am on KOMO 4.

Nature’s Market

Production of Nature’s Market spot incorporating a doorway dolly providing nice flowing shots of the store. The store interior was bathed in lots of natural light from outside and no additional lighting was used. The product shots turned out beautifully and gives a nice professional appearance to the store. Existing signage in the store provided easy idenfication of the types of products that Nature’s Market sells.
